Architect: Jaime Salvá Pascual // Project: 2014 // End of works: 2015 // Plot Area: 754 m2 // Building area: 325 m2. Cala Moragues, Puerto Andratx.
An integral refurbishment of an existing villa at Puerto de Andratx, Mallorca. Spain, designed by the team JAIME SALVÁ, Architecture & Interior Design. Located only 3 minutes away from the harbour side and enjoys some of the best views ever. On the east side you have a full view of the harbour with its beautiful lights at nighttime and on the west side fabulous open sea views. On clear days you can even see Ibiza on the horizon.
The villa is set on a about 754 m2 plot and has a constructed area of about 325 m2 including about 30 m2 of covered terraces plus about 100 m2 of open terraces. There are in total 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The spacious master bedroom has a dressing area, a bright bathroom with sea views and access to a terrace with fabulous harbour and sea views.
The main feature of the house was based on its complex geometry, devoid of right angles, leaving result in a random spaces, even separated by different levels with steps between the porch and the outdoor terrace, or between the kitchen and the dining room.
The goal of the architect Jaime Salvá was to update the Vila, giving it a Mediterranean character, using local natural materials. It was no possible to extend the area due to planning regulations, so the big challenge was based on orthogonalize the most interior spaces by redeploying spaces, creating disincentives such as shelves, cabinets, etc, which can hide the lack of parallel lines, further unifying levels by eliminating steps, and by removing one of the pillars of the porch that was located close to the pool.
Removing the random angles even with actions such as choosing a circular dining table, so that it is not committed to align with any axis. In this way, it acts as a "roundabout" in a space that connects the kitchen to the living room.
In other words, simplify the existing geometric complexity of the original house.
The new layout also adds an additional 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom. The cuisine provided by "Group Altava" is extended and redistributed in its entirety, getting a better connection with dinnig area, living area, terrace and Patio, making it a social space to meet.
All materials has been changed with neutral and natural colors, like a limestone pavement "Balearic gray" in both indoors and outdoors, and an oak floors on the ground floor.
The main color in the exterior walls is white. The old balaustrades has been replaced by Glass or metal railings, the arches are removed and some holes are extended to get the natural light as possible, and allows enjoying the views. Several of the windows become balconies to allow access to the terraces, creating a better internal-external conection.
